REM (Rapid Eye Mount) is a 60 cm diameter fast reacting telescope located in the La Silla premises of the ESO Chilean Observatory (29°15′S and 70°44′W).
The telescope hosts two instruments: REMIR, an infrared imaging camera, and ROS2, a visibile imager with 4 simultaneous passbands. The two cameras can also observe simultaneously thanks to a dichroic placed before telescope focus the same field of view of 10x10 arcmin. Thus, 5 images are obtained at the same time: g,r,i,z,IR.
The Observatory is operated for INAF by the d'REM Team, a delocalized group of people.

23 Jul 2026 ◊ Due to exceptionally adverse meteo condition, the entire site of La Silla is not operational since 2026-07-20 and will be possibly evacuated soon. Given the fact that the energy generators are due to finish fuel, all REM equipment will be shut down as today. We cannot foresee when the normal observations will be restarted, the situation in our Chilean Region is really dramatic.
8 Jun 2026 ◊ The problems with motor of the infrared camera filter wheel persists. We fixed the filter to K since this morning. Expect some error in the previous days, but from now all infrared images will be in the K band, disregarding the request in the OB.
7 Jun 2026 ◊ We are encountering some problem withe REMIR filter wheel (yes, again!). So please double check infrared images taken starting 1 June 2026.
24 May 2026 ◊ Call for proposal INAF AOT54 (October 1st 2026 - March 31st 2027 is open. The deadline is Monday 25th May 2026 at 12:00 UT. All informations and warning for REM are here. For submission package and form please follow the Proposal link.
22 Apr 2026 ◊ Successful maintenance in situ has restored full operativity of REM, including all filters in the infrared camera.
